An all-in-one device
for multiplex self-testing.
No electricity, no readers, no experience required.
THE STEPS
Self-testing made easy
Minimal interactions are required: insert the saliva sample, push the lever to deactivate the pathogens, and turn the knob to activate the heating module.
STEP ONE
Sample collection
Virus present in the user's mouth is collected through gargling water. The sample is injected in.
STEP TWO
Virus lysis
The sample mixes with lysis reagent, which breaks open the virus in the gargle sample, exposing its RNA.
STEP THREE
Target recognition
Short DNA (-primers) bind sequences to the pathogen of interest, if present.
STEP FOUR
Amplification
If the primer is attached, the viral RNA is replicated from a few molecules, to a hundred million. This happens under a constant temperature.
STEP FIVE
Color change
The colour in the reservoir changes to yellow if the infection is ongoing. If not, the colour remains red.
THE PATHOGENS
Beyond SARS-CoV-2
Detect up to five different pathogens with one swab, simultaneously.
These days, it is crucial to be able to differentiate what's the cause underlying fever and cold symptoms. For this reason, we intend to expand our testing abilities to the most common respiratory viruses: Influenza A/B and RSV.
We plan to incorporate dangerous pathogens frequently found in low-income countries such as malaria and tuberculosis. In this way, we bring cutting-edge diagnostic power to inaccessible and resource-limited areas.
